Sexy Boy – The Fallen Angels

13 years ago to this very day, the French electronica duo Air released their breakthrough hit single, Sexy Boy. Coincidentally, you may have recently clocked this cover version in the background of the TV ad for Lynx Excite. It’s an unusually sinister advert from Lynx, completely reinforced by the  mysterious backing vocals of the music.

Though I’m not quite sure who The Fallen Angels are, I like to imagine that they’re a group of 40-something women doing the choir thing on the side. A bit like that Glee malarkey on the telly.

The original is 13 years old.

The full length track is actually quite an interesting listen. I like cover versions that completely switch the genre of the original (unless it’s another mawkish, acoustic ‘Live Lounge’ cover of R&B song). This one sounds nothing like Air’s loveable Moog track from ‘Moon Safari’ (probably my favourite album ever by the way, but that’s for another day).

This isn’t your standard rock-n-roll to disco cover version either. It’s been given a quite haunting operatic vibe which works quite well weirdly enough.

So music industry, I’d like some more wine-and-cheese renditions of electronic songs please. If you could be so kind as to get that sorted and possibly knocking together some kind of compilation album to proclaim its arrival, that would be grand.

Imagine 50 years from now tuning into Radio 3 to listen to The Proms and hearing the Philharmonic Orchestra giving a rousing rendition of Mr Oizo’s ‘Flat Beat’. Amazing.

Review: Mysterious. Like a musical question mark.

You have made some decent points there. I looked on the web to find out more
about the issue and found most people will go along with your
    views on this website.
